Ammunition

Searching for the right ammunition for your gun can be a tough task with thousands of makes and models out there. Knowing your gun and what you are using it for is the obvious first question and then understanding what the components are that make up the ammunition and how they affect performance. Centerfire and Rimfire are two terms you will run across when searching to buy rounds for your firearm. Centerfire ammunition contains a primer that looks like a little button in the center at the base of the cartridge and Rimefire ammunition contains a priming compound in the rim of the cartridge. Rimfires are known to be more reliable due to their simple design which use less powder resulting in a lighter felt recoil. Centerfire ammunition come with different primer sizes: A smaller 0.175 inch diameter primer for small pistols and rifles and a larger 0.210 inch diameter primer for large pistols and rifles. When you want more power go with a Centerfire cartridge which typically also have a magnum version that contains more powder for a bigger punch. Rimfire cartridges are mainly used for target practicing and are usually cheaper to buy. For those of you who are new to reloading your own ammunition Rimfires are not reloadable while Centerfires are. Centerfire ammunition is most popular with hunters, long range competition shooters, and those seeking personal defense.
